The haul! Allagash Curieux, Ballast Point Sculpin, Firestone Walker Double Jack, Russian River Sanctification, Beatification, Consecration, baby Fernet, Lagunitas mason jar, and a Pliny T-shirt. Fuck yeah.
and that means in 2 weeks Founders KBS is back. Game on.
Also, if you’ve never put a scoop of ice cream in it, you’re missing out on the wonder of a bourbon-barrel-aged coffee-chocolate oatmeal imperial stout float. Blasphemy? Maybe. IDGAF.
Yeah, that’s two pitchers full of 2010 GI Bourbon County Stout, which we served with the dregs of the Heaven Hills barrels that they were aged in during beer school against Comet Cafe. Burnhearts does imperial stouts like a ballerrrr.
Beer flight ov doom, in Burnhearts natural lighting. JP Maracaibo Especial, De Glazen Special Eindejaar imperial saison, ST Oat, and Bell’s Hopslam. Delicious, and covers a huge range of flavors.
How I went from this to drinking Manhattans is beyond me though.
Last night’s Bell’s event turned out great and the Burnhearts shirts turned out awesome! Got some sweet Bell’s swag too. We went through a 1/4 barrel of Black Note in an hour and a cask of Hopslam in two. Crazy.
Alright nerds, help me decide what to drink first. From L to R:
Stillwater Chardonnay -Bal Aged Stateside Saison
Huisbrouwerij Sint Canarus Potteloereke (Belgian strong dark, definitely has quite a few years on it)
Bell’s Batch 10,000 (well actually, I’m saving it for Thursday)
New Glarus Imperial Weizen
Deschutes Black Butte Porter
Evil Twin Williamsburg Hipster Ale
Mikkeller Beer Hop Breakfast
Mikkeller Rauch Geek Breakfast
Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch Weasel
Central Waters Fourteen Fourteen (holy shit)
Olvadle Farms The Auroch’s Horn (Belgian-style strong pale)
Vanberg & DeWulf Lambicx (damn I love gueuze)
Finished it! All drawn in Photoshop CS3. And it’s anatomically correct!
My favorite bar, even wayyy before I started working there.
Went to Discount Liquor for the first time. Yeah, I know. Impulse buy of the day: Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch Weasel. Probably shouldn’t have bought it, but now I’ve got rauch geek breakfast and beer hop breakfast in the back too. Nice.
Cantillon graffiti somewhere in Belgium. What a nerd. haha
So this post is way overdue, but last week was the first round of Burnhearts vs. Comet Cafe beer school! It was a blast, and Burnhearts won! The lineup:
1. Wild Yeast
Comet- Stillwater Oak Aged Cellar Door
Burnhearts- Upland Dantalion Wild
2. Porter
Comet- Troegs Dead Reckoning
Burnhearts- Deschutes Black Butte
3. Belgian Style
Comet- Nebraska Melange A Trois
Burnhearts- Olvadle Farms The Auroch’s Horn
4. IPA
Comet- Firestone Walker Double Jack
Burnhearts- Minneapolis Town Hall Masala Mama
5. Barleywine
Comet- Mikkeller Bad Worse bourbon edition
Burnhearts- Central Waters 2009 Y2K Catastrophe
I helped pour all night. A whole lot of beer was consumed before, during, and after the event, and BJ gave me a Town Hall growler! Round 2 of beer school and gnarly hangover coming up on the 15th.
Did this last year, when I was obsessed with Double IPAs. Drawn and colored in photoshop. I do want to recreate it in traditional media though, probably as a large painting.
